A Garden-Based

Summer Learning Program

A Different Kind of Summer.

Summer is a season of growth — not just rest, and not more of the same school routine.

A Season to Grow is Peapod Place’s summer learning program designed to keep children gently engaged through meaningful, hands-on learning rooted in gardening, books, and real-world experiences. Days are slower, more seasonal, and intentionally structured to support curiosity, responsibility, and joy in learning.

This is not a traditional camp. It is a small-group summer learning experience where children continue to grow academically and personally — without pressure or burnout.

What the Summer Looks Like

Children spend their days:

  • Planting, tending, and harvesting in the garden

  • Reading quality literature and participating on discussion

  • Writing and journaling through observation and reflection

  • Measuring, counting, and problem-solving through real work

  • Spending ample time outdoors in a calm, supportive setting

Learning continues throughout the summer, but it looks different — more connected, more hands-on, and deeply rooted in the season.

A Gentle Daily Rhythm

Each day follows a predictable, supportive rhythm that balances structure with flexibility:

  • Outdoor free play (morning and afternoon)

  • Morning gathering with read-aloud and discusson

  • Integrated math and language arts through garden-based work

  • Snack and lunch breaks

  • Garden care, projects, and hands-on learning

  • Quiet reading, journaling, and creative work

This rhythm allows children to feel grounded while still leaving space for curiosity and exploration.
